Abortion Author 10th grade Muslim girl Since the Supreme Court Case in 1973 Roe V. Wade, which legalized abortion in America, few issues have attracted so much debate. In my opinion it is wrong to kill a baby in the mother’s womb, no one has the right to take innocent life this is something God and only God can make not a man or a woman for that matter. Why do I feel so strongly about this issue? As a Muslim my faith is very clear about the sanctity of human life, and we believe this is taking innocent life that has done nothing wrong to anyone at all. How would you feel if you would have been aborted, you would have never had a chance to get married or have a family of your own, so how can we allow this to continue in our country? What is the effect of 34 years of legalized abortion in America? According to Carrie Gordon Earl in her article, “What We Did Not Know: The Aftermath of Thirty Years of Legal Abortion,” that after abortion was legalized in the US, it nearly doubled in the first two decades after legalization, reaching more than one million each year. Also according to the article many pro abortion advocates claimed there would be a decrease in out of wedlock births as well as, child abuse cases after legalization of abortion; however Earl states, the number of child abuse case quadrupled and the number of births out of wedlock children to unmarried women more than tripled. The article also indicated in 1999 the 45% of women who had abortions had at least one previous abortion. Other negative side effects of abortion are damage to the cervix, or cervical cancer, suicide rates after abortion were three times the general suicide rate, and six times that associated with birth. Another negative side effect is women who ended their first pregnancy by abortion are five times more likely to report subsequent substance abuse than women who carried the pregnancy to term, and four times more likely to report substance abuse compared to those whose first pregnancy ended naturally. In 1973 we did not know that yet another barbaric late term abortion method called “partial birth abortion” was on the horizon. This insidious procedure involves the partial delivery of a living child in order to puncture and crush the baby's skull. To put this issue into more perspective conservative estimates state that 45,000,000 million abortions have occurred in the USA since the passage of Roe v Wade in 1973 legalizing abortion.(This is over seven times the number of Jews killed in the holocaust in Germany.) Compared with the total number of military deaths in the history of the United States is anywhere from 1.5million to 2 Million. Keep in mind, these are statistic based on reported facts, not opinions. Below is a graphic description of the above mention comparison of war death compared to the number of abortions:(the source of this information was provided by the US center for disease control(CDC) as well as the Alan Gutemacher Institute (AGI) Planned Parenthoods Research Institute that monitors abortions trends. Legal Abortion 1973-present (45,951,133+ & counting) To be fair we must give the opposing side to this debate, or the Pro Abortion side. According to the largest provider of abortions in the United States Planned Parenthood, nearly 1.3 million women choose abortion to end their pregnancy each year. The most common reason given for abortion, not ready to be a parent, she cannot afford a baby, she dose not want to be a single parent, her husband, partner, parent wants her to have an abortion, or having an abortion would interfere with her carrier. People who are pro-choice believe that women should have access to safe and legal abortion and, equally, that women should be protected from forced abortions. Some see abortion as a last resort, and focus on a number of situations where they feel abortion is a necessary option. Among these situations are those where the woman was raped, her health or life (or that of the fetus) is at risk, contraception was used but failed, or she feels unable to raise a child. Some pro-choice moderates, who would otherwise be willing to accept certain restrictions on abortion, feel that political pragmatism compels them to oppose any such restrictions, as they could be used to form a slippery slope against all abortions. According to Planned Parenthood what are the side effects of having an abortion, most women feel relief. Some feel anger, regret, guilt, or sadness for a little while. Contrary to statistical data on the side effects of abortion, Planned Parenthood claims there are no emotional problems of depression or "post abortion syndrome". They claim there is no scientific proof for these claims. Who was the Roe in the 1973 Roe v Wade case legalizing abortion in the United States?
Norma McCorvey or Jane Roe, began her association with one of the United States' most divisive issue, abortion in 1970, when she became center point regarding lawsuit filed to challenge the strict anti-abortion laws in Texas. Unable to settle this matter at the state house in Austin, the case was latter appealed to the Supreme Court, which handed down its controversial ruling on January 22, 1973. With this decision abortion become legal in all 50 states, and the issue continues to The Rev. Phillip Benham, Operation Rescue's national director, described her as being "super hard-core" in her support for abortion rights. She couldn't stand us. She hated us.Although, McCorvey and Benham overtime became friends and eventually she was invited to his church baptised and become a christian. Today, McCorvey opperates Roe No More Ministry that speaks out against abortion on demand in the US. In a 1997 CNN interview, McCorvey blamed violence at abortion clinics on the abortion-rights groups like the National Organization of Women(NOW) and other such groups. Norma stated that the abortion industry is in the business to gain insurance money so they are able to use to build bigger abortion clinics to further increase profits she said. How can we then resolve the problem of abortion in America? That is easier said than done, along with being a very controversial issue, it also is a very profitable industry for organizations such as Planned Parenthood who make millions of dollars annually off the controversial procedure. In fact Planned Parenthood reported $90,950,000 from abortion procedures in 2002 alone. Therefore, it is no wonder they are so opposed to any restriction on abortion on demand in the US. Also an estimated $250 million dollars in tax payer money goes to abortion according to the US Center for Disease Control (CDC). This is outrageous, and even some who are pro-choice do not want to fund other peoples abortions. One way to solve this problem is to get involved by supporting groups who educate women on the effects of abortion. According to an organization called Feminist for Life, a group who has been very effective in changing the minds of college aged women to think twice about having an abortion. In fact, the group claims to have helped decrease the occurrence of college graduates having abortions by 30% since 1994. The groups motto is "Abortion is a reflection that we have not met the needs of women. Women deserve better than abortion." I definitely agree with this statement, as an increasing number of Americans seem to as well as college freshman in 1994 67% were pro choice, while a decade latter it dropped to 54% according to the Alan Gutemacher institute not exactly a biased source considering they are the think tank for Planned Parenthood. Another reason for the increase in pro life is teaching of abstinence education in sexual education class according to Gutemacher 35% of the schools in the US now teachs this. Therefore, it is not surprising that Planned Parenthood is totally opposed to abstinence education since there seems to be a correlation between it and a decrease occurrence of abortion. The other reason for the decrease in abortion is the use of ultrasound, where a woman can now clearly see that it is human being in her womb, rather than a blob of tissue that has been the mantra of those who are pro choice for many years.
Finally, I hope it is my generation that stands up to support life and over turns Roe v Wade, so we can become a culture of life, rather than a culture of death, where all children will be truly valued and loved because I believe American woman and children can do better, because no one truly has the right to take away innocent life except for God.

be very divisive to this day. Ironically, McCorvey was 21 when the case started never had an abortion and gave birth to a girl, who was later given up for adoption. After the land mark decision, Mcorvey contined her crusaide for abortion and her life was filled with many struggles to keep jobs as she was often unemployed or worked for a traveling circus as a carnival barker. In the 1980’s Norma went public with her story and began working various abortion clinics, and some public speaking ingagements, garnering publicity and a little bit of celebrity. McCorvey' life in March 1995 changed while working at a Dallas Women's clinic the pro life group Operation Rescue moved its offices next door. Initially, McCorvey hurled insults at the protesters.
